Research Interests

Our research lab focuses on materials development by using the tools and methods available in organic and polymer chemistry.

We develop soft matter solutions for unmet biomedical and technological needs in ocular research, smart surfaces, and polymer recycling. We execute a “retrosynthetic” approach to structure-property-application relationships of polymers for new materials development. We identify current challenges where viscoelastic fluids and soft materials might be advantageous with their unique properties in proposed solutions. In addition, we aim to maximize the performance of the materials and increase our current understanding of the materials’ design, synthesis, manufacturing, and properties at a molecular level by leveraging the emerging field of data-driven computational methods. The unifying theme of our research program is the use of polymer chemistry and high-throughput experimentation to design the materials of the future.
